Announcing Rubix Linux 1.0!

This is the inaugural release of the Rubix Linux operating system.

Rubix Linux 1.0 is a complete, modern, advanced distribution of the GNULinux operating system. The parallel goals of simplicity, stability and security dictate the entire development process. Rubix Linux has a deep heritage with roots in both Slackware, the oldest surviving Linux distribution, and Arch Linux, a modern distribution with advanced package management including dependency resolution. Rubix Linux combines these two worlds into a cohesive new distribution with many new features only Rubix can provide.

Rubix Linux strives to be extremely powerful yet simple to administer. Rubix Linux will always maintain security and stability updates to the last two stable releases. Additionally, a "bleeding edge" -current branch will be available for users wishing to test the functionality that will be introduced in the next stable release. Finally, Rubix Linux has a major focus on supplying the latest
security enhancements in an unobtrusive way. Features like Stack Smashing Protection, PAX address space protection, Role Based Access Controls and Grsecurity are all available with minimal configuration required. Encrypted partition support is also supported via loop-aes.

Rubix Linux is distributed with the linux kernel versions 2.6.15.5, 2.4.32 and 2.4.32-grsec. Rubix Linux has been built from scratch to support the latest 2.6 kernels while still retaining full backwards compatibility for 2.4 kernels.

Rubix Linux is well equipped to serve in both desktop and server roles. Rubix has exceptional hardware detection with udev replacing hotplug for 2.6 kernels and the latest KDE desktop version 3.5.1. XFCE 4.2.3.2, Fluxbox 0.9.14, Blackbox 0.70.1, Window Maker 0.92.0 and even the latest cvs release of Enlightenment E17 are provided as well. Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.1 and Thunderbird 1.5 are now the default web browser and email client. Rubix Linux also supports the best modern filesystems including ext2, ext3, jfs, xfs, reiserfs and now reiser4 (with 2.6 kernels) from installation.
